“What about her (Rihanna)? She hit him first, so maybe she deserved it”

“You don’t know what its like, I’ve been in fights like that before… It happens”

Responses like these were all I heard as people expressed their feelings about Chriannagate, you know- the ongoing saga between Chris Brown and Rihanna.

Personally, I was shocked and appalled. How could people be so stupid? What has Chris Brown done, outside of crumping in an oversized suit, to warrant such unmitigated loyalty and support from, what seems like, the majority of the public? Is domestic violence so easily swept under a rug? And for what, an unrealized artist’s potential?  Is it because the woman he hit is deemed “not a good singer” by the recording industry?  Would we have the same opinion if people didn’t hate or dislike Rihanna? Would it be the same if he beat Jennifer Hudson? How about Jordin Sparks…Keke Palmer?   Would people hold up “Chris Brown is a Monster” signs instead of wearing their “Free Chris Brown” T-shirts?

First off, I am not a Chris Brown hater, but neither am I, a fan. He’s enjoyed moderate success, nicely executing some expertly produced singles the way any exciting new artist should. But let’s be extremely honest, Chris Brown is hardly the next Michael Jackson; hell he’s not even the next Millie Jackson!

In the grand scheme of things, and compared to his musical peers, Trey Songz and Mario are much better singers; Omarion, a much better dancer. What Brown has in abundance is mass appeal- the kind that makes millions of his fans go gaga every time he makes an appearance.

Brown’s “Forever” is one of the best dance songs of the 21^st Century and he was, undeniably, well on his way to becoming another overrated performer, on par with the over-hyped, dancing, one-woman industry- Beyonce.

But who remembers the photos of Rihanna’s bruised and battered face?

Before we go there, let me admit, I was not there. Who knows what really started the fight? Did Rihanna say something to set him off? Did she do something… grab and squeeze his balls into jelly? Did she and her 6-inch, freshly manicured nails rake off enough of Chris’ light Brown face to produce streaks of gushing, red blood, thus producing the impending highway beatdown?

One thing’s for sure, we were not there. We don’t know all that happened. We don’t know who started the fight. One thing we know for sure, Chris Brown, despite his youth, beat Rihanna’s ass, all while racing down the highway in a scorching new Lamborghini,  Shoot, that’s a pretty grown thing to do.  I’m only 26 years old and I don’t know jack about AWD- Abusing While Driving.  Oh well, maybe it’s something I’ll grow into, master when I get older.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, Chris Brown, red military style blouse and a stern, serious look, makes a public statement apologizing to Rihanna, her family and fans everywhere.

In the viral TMZ.com video, Brown read from a teleprompter, claiming he wanted to tell everyone he was sorry and that he was telling us this against the advice of his lawyers.  Informing us that he is “continuing to seek help from his spiritual advisor” and that he has told “Rihanna time and time again how sorry he is,” Brown looked a hot mess.

Was he telling the truth? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Is the TMZ apology enough? Hmmm…

Is he truly sorry?

I think so, but not out of genuine regret.  He’s sorry he was caught, arrested and in the process of serving the sentence he plead to a few weeks ago. He’s sorry his mistake is hitting his pockets, as attorney’s fees, legal fees, hospital fees are all starting to mount. And when is the last time you heard a new Chris Brown single?

Mainly, he is sorry that his career is in serious jeopardy. Hova was dead serious when he claimed to blacklist anyone who does business with Chris Brown.

But is this where the Chris Brown-Rihanna story ends?   I know what you may be thinking.  Could Brown say anything but sorry?

I can’t judge Brown, it’s not my place. Ultimately, it’s between him and God, but I can offer an opinion about what is obviously an abusive relationship- the one between him and Rihanna!

And, I do believe that if this ordeal hadn’t been captured by the media resulting in Brown’s arrest, Rihanna’s mugshot, Jay-Z’s threats and all the other drama, the infamous couple would still be in a relationship today. Domestic Abuse does not exist in a vacuum. It’s not a one time event, and it’s not something you can just give a free pass to, even if because of age.

Chris Brown is old enough to drive, old enough to tour the world and old enough to sex women on and off stage. And since he enjoys the lifestyle of a rich, spoiled adult does, he is definitely old enough to serve some rich, spoiled adult jail time for beating Rihanna’s ass.

What, all of sudden he’s too young? He’s just a child…a toddler??? C’mon y’all, you can’t “GIMMIE THAT”. That’s an invalid excuse.

So what should Chris Brown be doing? Hmmmmm….

For starters, he needs to be in some sort of class or corrective program. If Brown wants my sympathy, let’s see the paparazzi pictures showing him in a Domestic Violence program.  Instead of the pictures of him with an oops chain and pictures of him coupled up with Teyana Taylor, showing off their abs.

Chris Brown needs to stop spending all that money on gold chains and trinkets and work to regain the good graces of people in the media like me- FRESHERTHANCHRIS.COM, who hold the endorsements that will, once again propel him to superstardom. If he’s lucky, if he gets smart and does the right things, he may get a pass.

TO cut to the chase, Chris Brown needs to sit his ass down, get his mind right, read the FRESHERTHANCHRIS.COM weekly blog before he goes to the studio, cuts a new record and starts partying like its all good, because its really not.
