People always have so many negative things about BET as a network. We here at FresherThanChris do feel like everyone deserves a chance to redeem themselves. After all, anything we say here is meant in the spirit of hoping others will do better after hearing how they’re doing wrong.  We are on the quest for quintessentially dopeness here, and sometimes it takes a minute to get there..But apparently BET has more than enough time to show and prove.. and they haven’t.. and Sunday’s night show was no exception.

GOOD

Now there were a few things that were good at the awards.   But unfortunately it was just a few.   I thought the Keith Sweat, Guy and BBD show was pretty awesome.  I also felt the Ojay’s tribute was great, merging old and new to present a tribute worthy of their career.   Maxwell’s performance was pretty amazing.    It was also great to see that Neyo and Jamie Foxx perform a tender and heartfelt rendition of “I’ll Be There”.    Unfortunately this is where it stops…

BAD

Jamie Foxx plugging his tour every four seconds.   I mean, overall he was a pretty good host but I think it was in poor taste to keep using this award show as a platform for his tour.    I also found his dance tribute to Michael Jackson to neither be funny nor at all in the spirit of who Michael was.  Wearing clothes that are too tight and making jokes about this man, I found to be in extreme poor taste.

While I appreciated Keyshia’s cole attempt to honor Michael by wearing one of his wigs from the Invinicible era, I thought her performance was awful.  What the hell did she have on?  It looked like she had on a the top of her jr prom dress with capris from New York and Company.   It was terrible and her screaming match with Moncia was not music to my ears.

And the performances got worse and worse, as the night continued.    Ciara’s rendition of “HEAL THE WORLD” could have easily been sung by someone else. It was pretty terrible.  In addition, Beyonce’s 39 minute version of AVE MARIA was about as exciting and entertaining as Danny Devito’s bedroom.    She didnt even care enough about the awards to do something different (that was her tour performance exactly).   New Edition was not prepared to give a michael tribute, they were off key and outta shape.  It was an EMBARASSMENT to watch.

UGLY

Where were the nominees?   I had no idea who was nominated, they were just announced.  It was horrible.  The basis of an award show is to discuss who was nominated so that we know who won.  All of sudden, a envelope appeared and Beyonce was on stage.  No one even knew who her competition was (not like there is any), but still, It would have been nice to know.

Drake and Lil Wayne’s young money performance should have been moved to the preshow.   It was a disgusting display of ignornace that no one should be subjected to see.  Especially those, who were waiting for a “tribute” to Michael Jackson.  To have Lil Wayne singing “I wish I could fuck every girl in the world” while little girls popped thier ass to the beat, was appauling.     Honestly, if any adjustments should have been made, this is one of them.    Then, to add insult to injury, they shouted out MJ as if their performance had anything to do with Michael Jackson.

Honestly… I would have been much more pleased with a montage of micheael’s greatest accomplishments with Neyo or someone singing “gone too soon”.   That would have more than sufficed.  Instead, I got gone too coon with foolish and poorly thought out renditions of michael songs, as well as a lack of true understanding of what he has done.  I was shocked that Janet even showed up to speak on his behalf, as his efforts were hardly visible in the efforts that your network and people involved attempted to make.

BET, if you need help putting your programs together, just let us know. I got a team here at FresherThanChris that is more than willing to help you out.  Debra Lee seems to be more interested in trying to look cute and relevant instead of making BET a relevant channel to watch.

I guess I can’t be too upset about your attempt….. MTV i’m sure, like always will do what you try to do, but better.
